Weekly Check-In: March 29, 2023

It’s my birthday! You’ll have to wait to see my fabulous outfit until my monthly wrap-up on Friday since I haven’t posted pictures on Instagram yet, but I look so freaking cute.

recently finished

I haven’t finished Phantom of the Opera, but I’ve decided to put it down. Every time I try to listen to it, I get about ten minutes done and then don’t want to anymore, so it’s clearly not working. The audiobook is good, and I really love listening to the story rather than physically reading it, but it’s just not working right now. I did, however, finish A Restless Truth, and my goodness. Why did no one tell me this was going to be a trilogy?? I got to the end and was just SHOUTING. I’m so excited for the final installment, and even more so because it’s following Hawthorn. I never thought I’d want to see him as a MC, but here we are!

currently reading

I finally started A Secret History of Witches, which Erin has been trying to get me to read for ages now, and which I feel like a fool for not having read sooner because damn it’s good, and damn it’s right up my alley. I already want to read anything else Morgan has written just based on the first fifty pages of this. I’m about halfway through it, and though I did think about starting a second book at the same time, I’m trying to stop doing that again. I always go back to doing that, and then every book takes forever to finish, and I’m aggravated at myself for not having enough time to read both each day, so I’m focusing, as always, again and again, on reading just one at a time.

what’s next

I do, however, have two books lined up for what’s next. Not at the same time, just I want to be reading more, so I’m hopeful to get started on both Certain Dark Things and A Witch’s Guide to Fake Dating a Demon. These are the two most opposite vibes ever, and I know I said I was going to read Book of Night next, but I kind of want to read that the week of Nocturne’s book club so it’s fresh in my mind given how fast I forget things, so we’re going to wait on that for a second.

I’m making it my godsdamn goal to read more vampire books this year, though, even if that means literally anything I can get my hands on, and Silvia Moreno-Garcia’s looks the most appealing of the few that I have right now. And since it’s my birthday, and I want to read something witchy and fun, I’m going with the book that sounds like it’s almost a mirror image to my sister witches book, but with witch/demon romance, which I’m sure will be hilarious. Either way, it certainly sounds like I’m going to have a kickass end of the month!

Happy birthday!! 😀 I think that makes you a fiery Aries, right?

And I need to read A Secret History of Witches too. I keep putting it off, but I have a strong feeling that I’ll end up liking it.

Through and through! I’ve got a heck of a lot of Aries energy, haha.

I’m about halfway through, and I wish I could just stay home from work for a full day and read the whole thing because it’s absolutely fantastic.
