Weekly Check-In: February 22, 2023

I had so many plans for the long weekend, namely that I was going to spend the entirety of it reading Chain of Thorns. And though Saturday was intentionally busy, I thought I’d have the whole night and all of Sunday & Monday to just do nothing. Obviously, that meant that I needed to get the cooking urge and get sick, so. Not only did I spend four hours on Sunday making soup, risotto, bread, and crackers, I also felt like a truck had hit me repeatedly over the course of the day until, when I was done in the kitchen, I just wanted to curl up on the couch and watch Outlander, and that is all very reflective of where we are for this week’s check-in.

recently finished

I probably ended up treating Witches of Ash & Ruin a little unfairly because I read it while sick, but it was also just a bit weird overall, and while it wasn’t bad, it wasn’t superb, either. It just was. Still, it was a good read, and I’m interested to read Latimer’s other book.

currently reading

Remember how I was like “I also cannot stop thinking about The Ever Storms, so I’m going to slot that into currently reading assuming I’ll start reading it before Wednesday rolls around.” Here we are, with it only now just entering the currently reading space, and, next time, I won’t lie. I did start reading it, though, and I am having a fantastic time. I ended up staying home from work on Tuesday, so got a bunch of reading done for that, too, so should have it finished shortly.

I also started both A Dance with the Fae Prince and A Magic Steeped in Poison because I just wanted to read all the things while I was sick, which never happens, and I am hyped.

what’s next

Okay, for real this time, I’d like to start Chain of Thorns. However, I absolutely do not want to carry that 800 page tome around to work, so I’m hoping to also read either a contemporary or another witch book. I’m really not sure which way I’m going to sway right now, but I have been trying to power through my witch books since they’re taking up more than half a shelf right now, and that’s a lot. However, I’ve also been consuming a lot of fantasy books lately, so I may end up swaying the other direction. I don’t know! We’ll see!
