Weekly Check-In: January 18, 2023

This is going to have a similar format of my previous WWW posts, but without all the added pressure and joining of tags and all the things that was making me not like doing this. It feels so strange to have WordPress open right now while I’m drinking my tea, drafting a post to schedule for the future, but it also feels nice. I miss this, and I really want to try to not make it terrible again by putting so much pressure on myself unnecessarily, so hi! Here’s where I’m at with reading.

recently finished

If I can get back to reading a book a week, that would be amazing. In the last few months, it has taken way more than that, and I’m hopeful that Jurassic Park is the answer. Which, honestly, I wrote that last week when I was first drafting this post, and it appears it really was the answer. It was so damn good. I was so excited to read each night that I actually did read almost every night. And, not only did I read this and watch the movie, I read Mysteries of Thorn Manor, as well, which was every bit as wonderful as I was hoping.

currently reading

I’m working my way through The Lost World right now, though I anticipate finishing it up fairly quickly. Crichton did such a fantastic job with these books, and it’s so evident how much time and effort he put into the research for them. I’m sad that there are only two books, but also so excited to continue on my marathon of rewatching the movies!

up next

This section is going to be a little tough for me to get back into, but I’d really like to get back into it. Having a monthly TBR is not something I’m looking for right now since that was starting to feel like homework, but possibilities for the week will help me streamline my reading so I’m actually making my way back into daily reading. Currently, I’ve got The River of Silver on my nightstand, and I’d like to pair that with Dark Rise and/or The Weeping Tide. I’ve been doing a lot of trashy fantasy romances recently, and the last one really left a sour taste in my mouth, so I’d like to redirect my focus to some new releases and slow burns and complex fantasy.

Oh it’s really nice to see what you’re up to after a while! And I’m super excited to hear what you think of Dark Rise!!

It’s been nice slowly getting back into actually paying attention to what I’m reading!

Although I like the Jurassic Park movies (well more the ones from the 1990s), I keep thinking I won’t like the book, although many who’ve read it really enjoyed it. I’ll have to give it a try too one of these days.

The books are really excellent! They have the same kind of energy as the movies, but with even more paleontology backstory and scientific reasoning. There are definitely some dense parts, but I thoroughly enjoyed them as a whole.
