The what are you reading Wednesday posts are hosted by Taking on a World of Words! I’ve finally called it and said the words–I’m in a slump. I have been for a couple months, but I’ve been trying to avoid actually naming it, but it seems undeniable. I read four books last month. I’m reading more this month, but only through sheer determination, and audiobooks are definitely saving me, which is not a sentence I thought I’d ever write, but here we are, in almost the same exact place as last week.

what did you recently finish?

Nothing. I haven’t even looked at A Thousand Beginnings & Endings since last week, and while I expected to take my time with it, I did also expect to read a solid portion of it over the week, but I haven’t read anything past the initial three stories that I read.

Wait! I’m lying! I finished Persuasion last week, I totally forgot I was reading that. It was honestly really damn good, and I think it might be my second favorite Austen. (Emma was always hold my heart first.)

what are you currently reading?

Quite a few things. In an attempt to strongarm myself back into reading, I’m currently reading three books. I started Mansfield Park immediately after finishing Persuasion because I want to wrap up the last of the Austen books, and I’ve got mini reviews scheduled for next week, so I’m hoping to listen to it a lot this week. I’m also still in the middle of Beginnings & Endings because I made no effort to read it since last we checked in. And I started A Ferry of Bones & Gold the other night because I rightfully thought that the thing that’d pull me out of a slump would be Shadowhunters, but for the first time in 15 years, I don’t have a new one to read, so I grabbed the next best thing, which is a gayer and more adult version of Shadowhunters, and it’s fantastic so far.

what do you think you’ll read next?

I don’t know. Fantasy is where I feel most drawn to right now, but I don’t know what that means. I got the other two books in the Seafire trilogy, so that could mean that Steel Tide is up next, or it could mean I want to keep on the trashy fantasy train and read A Deal with the Elf King. I really don’t know. Truly anything is possible right now. At the very least, I’d like to finish my two current reads by the time next Wednesday comes around, or even before the weekend hits so I can do some weekend reading, but we’ll see where the wind takes me.

  1. What have I finished: nothing recently, but I am in the process of finishing Spillover by David Quammen.
Next on my list is “Twenty years later” the sequel of “The three Musketeers” by Alexandre Dumas Sr. I loved the Three Musketeers!
