The what are you reading Wednesday posts are hosted by Taking on a World of Words! Yes, I did skip both a WWW and TT last week, but I just did not have it in me. The WWW would have literally been a copy and paste from the week prior because I did so little reading while traveling abroad, and I didn’t actually have anything scheduled for the TTT, sooooo, here we are, starting fresh! I landed in Boston on Sunday night, took Monday morning off to snuggle with my cats because I missed them so damn much, and now I’m trying to get back in the swing of things because Goodreads tells me I’m four books behind, and that’s not gonna fly.

what did you recently finish?
Not only did I finally finish Circe after over a week of reading it, but I also started & finished Gallant! I feel so accomplished. I thought three books ended up being too many to bring, but I read Gallant super fast and started Spells Trouble on my flight home, so I think three was probably a good idea. I am bummed that I didn’t get to read more while I was traveling because it’s always the time that I wind down, but at least I got some in.
what are you currently reading?
As of Monday, when I’m drafting this, I’m just at the beginning of Spells Trouble. I’ll be honest, I’m not loving it so far. The writing is a little much, not even in a purple way, just in a try hard way, and it feels like a debut novel that’s also the first novel the authors ever wrote. I don’t know if it is, but that’s the vibe I’m getting. (IE: it reads a lot like my earlier novels that I shelved.) It’s been a fast read so far, though, so it’s entirely possible that I’ll have it finished by the time this posts on Wednesday.

what do you think you’ll read next?
Alright, y’all, we’ve got some work to do. I am severely behind on so many things. As I said above, I’m four books behind on my Goodreads goal, I haven’t written a single damn thing (kind of a lie) in weeks, and I barely scratched the surface on my March witchy reads. Thus, I’m getting very Mulan over here.

I’ve got six books on my April TBR and, currently, two unread preorders. I’m carrying over A Mixture of Mischief from March because I’m finishing that trilogy, damn it. I do only have one preorder coming in April, so I won’t be too overwhelmed with all the things, but I do want to get on top of those four outstanding books for my yearly goal, not because of anything obnoxious, just because I haven’t been reading a lot, and I miss it a heck ton. Now I’ve just got to determine what’s reasonable for the week.
- Finish Spells Trouble @ 250 pages.
- Read A Mixture of Mischief @ 300 pages.
- Start A Thousand Beginnings and Endings @ 150 pages.
- Read Seafire by Natalie Parker @ 375 pages.
That’s 1,075 pages, which is totally doable because it’s around 200 pages a day if I only do the weekdays and closer to 150 a day if I include the weekends. I think I can probably realistically finish Spells Trouble by Tuesday, not gonna lie, and I’ll probably read Mischief and Beginnings & Endings at the same time. The latter is a shorty story collection, and I like to do those slowly, so I’ll probably read that throughout the week and just jump on Seafire once I’m done with Mischief. Yeah, this sounds like a solid plan. I’m not super focused on writing this week just because I’d like to tackle some reading, so I feel confident that I can get through all of these by next Wednesday.
