The what are you reading Wednesday posts are hosted by Taking on a World of Words! Gonna be real, this past week was rough. It took me five days to read a 300 page middle grade that should have realistically taken two days, and I’m so tired. Which is just, like, a huge departure from last week when I was ready to conquer everything. I definitely am nowhere near going to finish my witchy TBR for this month, and I’m now two books behind on my Goodreads challenge, and ugh. Between a truly wild few days at work that kept me away from my desk at all hours, working six hours on a Sunday, and spending all weekend splitting my time between last minute travel planning and wedding stuff with Jen, I’m kind of in recovery mode right now. My hands are trash from climbing, my whole body is dehydrated from not drinking enough water, and my body is begging me to get more sleep, so the plan for the next few days before I get on my flight to Lisbon on Friday is to just chill.

what did you recently finish?

Somehow, I finished A Sprinkle of Spirits. It was literally the only thing I read in the last week, and I didn’t even really read it. I read half of it on Wednesday, nothing until a bleary fifty pages on Friday, and then I stumbled through the last hundred Monday night because I was bound and determined to finish it so I could crack something else open before I left. It was really good, but it was also not the thing I wanted to be reading at the time, so I think that was definitely part of why it took so long, too.

what are you currently reading?

As I’m drafting this on Tuesday morning, I haven’t started Lakelore yet, but it’s in my bag, and if I don’t read during my lunch, I might cry, so I’m pretty sure that’s going to be where I’m at in a few hours. It was a battle between that and Gallant, too, but I think I want to take Gallant with me to Portugal (already shaking things up, of course), but I also don’t want to wait two weeks to read Lakelore, so we’re mildly abandoning the TBR over here.

what do you think you’ll read next?

I’m honestly not sure if I’ll be able to read anything else before Portugal, but you never know! One of my toxic traits is finishing a book I’ve brought with me on a trip in the airport before I ever leave, which means carrying around a book I’ve already read the entire trip, and I’m really trying not to do that. I’d like to have books that I haven’t started yet in my bag because I really have no room for anything extra, and my goal is to take:

  1. Gallant by VE Schwab
  2. Circe by Madeline Miller
  3. Spells Trouble by Kristin Cast & PC Cast
  4. The Midnight Bargain by CL Polk

This is a half change from where I was at previously, but I don’t think I want to take a middle grade with me anymore, and I may still try to stuff Labyrinth Lost in there, but we’ll see. I tend to read McLemore pretty fast, so I wouldn’t be super surprised if I finished that in a day or two and ended up reading Gallant before I even left since it looks like it’ll be a quick read. Who knows! Maybe I won’t read anything. I’m exhausted, but I also have nothing after work on Tuesday & Wednesday, and my plan is to curl up in bed with my cats for as long as possible on both days, so fingers crossed I’ll actually get some decent reading in.
