ICYMI, I’ve hopped on the what are you reading WWW Wednesday posts, which are hosted by Taking on a World of Words, and my normal Wednesday posts, usually discussions, are moving to Thursdays. Also, hi, the fact that I a) thought I was going to draft this post after work on Tuesday and b) thought I might have time before 3PM on Wednesday is just hilarious. We’ve been working on expanding our office to be three times bigger, and we finally got the green light the week of Christmas, so we’ve been organizing everything over the holidays, and Tuesday was our move-in day. I spent eight straight hours either moving equipment or building desks, and I was absolutely trashed by the end of the day. I also had one million things to do this morning, whether that was catching up on emails or rounding up a list of supplies that I had to buy to outfit the two new spaces. I can’t believe I even remembered to move this into a draft rather than post it blank, but here we are, at hopefully still 3PM on Wednesday when this posts!

what did you recently finish reading?
I did finish Chain of Iron before the New Year, and it was amazing. I’m really sad to have finished it well before Chain of Thorns is out, but also glad to have finally set behind the four-year goal of reading the entire Shadowhunters universe. Although, I won’t lie, the moment I finished Chain of Iron, I had the urge to reread TMI. It won’t happen this year, but now it’s in my brain.
I also read The Monsters of Rookhaven, which was phenomenal. If I’d done a top five middle grade reads of the year, it would have 100% been the top spot, and it’s definitely now one of my favorite middle grades of all time.
what are you currently reading?
I’m about 100 pages into The Marvelous by Claire Kann, and I hate to say this, but I’m not really enjoying it. I just don’t really get it? I knew it wasn’t a romance, but I’m so used to Kann writing contemporary romances that I think I went into it expecting that anyway, and now I’m in this weird social media weekend getaway challenge fight to the death kind of thing, and I just don’t get it. It’s a weird vibe, and I’m not really into it. I’m going to finish it, though, because it’s Kann, and I love her.
I also started Tolkien and the Great War, which was delightful in the first fifty pages, and I’m hoping I can finish it this week so that I can write up a review for it to post for his birthday celebrations this month.

what do you think you’ll read next?
I still want to read Fire with Fire next, so I’m hopeful that I’ll be able to start that this week. The Marvelous isn’t that long, and I think I can knock it out by Thursday night, so I’ll start Soria on Friday, read that and Garth’s Tolkien book over the weekend, and then crack into something else. Depending on how I feel after Soria, I might want a contemporary, but my lack of interest in Kann makes me feel like I’m going to want fantasy instead.
