Happy 2021 Pride!
I am so hyped to be alive and thriving for another Pride, and I cannot wait to bring you the queerest month on the blog yet! Last year was pretty amazing, not gonna lie, but I didn’t really make the whole month about Pride. I did a few posts:
And I read a lot of queer books, but that’s not a lot. Wow, it’s way less than I remembered. I totally had it in my head that last year was hella queer, and I was only upping the ante a little this year, but Y’ALL. WE GETTIN’ SO GAY.
Truly, I have so many plans. Originally, I wasn’t going to do an introduction post, but given that Tolkien month back in January got its own thing, I figured heck! Why not! Let’s talk about all the good things coming! Because there really are a lot of good things coming, holy moly. I’ve been working so hard throughout April and May to make sure that June was just going to be overflowing with all the good things, and though I’ve still got a little work left to do (read: still haven’t finished my short stories, no one is surprised), we are mostly ready to go, and it’s going to be amazing.
So, what can you expect this month?
- Monday, as always, will continue to be discussion posts. I do, however, have a theme that seemed to run away from me real fast, and if you get sick of me screaming about queer characters in fantasy, well. I’m actually not sorry at all. It is a bone I apparently needed to pick this month, so there are three posts dedicated to the topic, four if you include the post about my writing, and, really, eight if you include the extra special part of this month.
- Tuesdays are TTTs, obviously! I’ve got a bunch of fun topics, and I think all of them are mine? I didn’t see any Pride-specific TTTs organized ahead of time, so I just cobbled together all the things I want to shout about, as well as shouted about my own books for a bit, too.
- Wednesdays are a mishmash of all sorts of goodies! There are some more discussions because I had a lot to say this month, a review of the first four volumes of Heartstopper, a bunch of queer books that I want to read that I honestly just had no way of getting to this month with my massive TBR, and, well. Did you really think I wasn’t going to dedicate an entire post to Sense8?
- The most exciting part of this year’s Pride, though, is the brief return of Thursday Thousand! That’s right, folks, we’ve got four queer short stories posting this month. They run the gamut across the spectrum–gay, lesbian, trans, and ace. I’m very, very excited to revisit some of my beloved characters (hell yes, we checked in with sister witches) and to unfold some of my new ones (it’s finally time to introduce you to Bea & Eleanor!!!). I’m just bursting with joy over these short stories, and I can’t wait for you to read them!
In addition, I’m also going to be watching a lot of movies, and I’m celebrating Pride up in Maine with my best friend! Since there are still no parades this year, we’ve decided to have our own little celebration at her house. There’ll be strobe lights, chaotic music, and a hell of a lot of laughter. My movie reviews won’t come until the wrap-up, so there’s no special post set aside for them, but that wrap-up is sure to be queer af, too.
There’s a whole lot of heart coming this month, and I can’t wait to share it with all of you.
