I saw this floating around a few weeks ago and kept thinking that there was no way the end of the year had already arrived, but alas, here we are. I recently saw this on Lisa @ Way Too Fantasy, and it seemed like a fun, quick little callout for myself!
Are there any books you started this year that you need to finish?
I’ve gotten out of the habit of starting books and not finishing them in the same month, so no. Gosh, remember that time I started The Fireman in May and didn’t finish it until December, OI NÃO OBRIGADO. However, I do need to read The Two Towers and Return of the King before the end of the year, so although I haven’t started those previously, they’re must reads this month.
Do you have an autumnal book to transition into the end of the year?
Sometimes? I reread Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater about every other year when it starts getting cold, and it’s definitely become something of a transitional book for me. I know it’s truly time for the cold to set in when that starts waving at me from my shelf.
Is there a new release you’re still waiting for?
UM YES, A SKY BEYOND THE STORM BY SABAA TAHIR CAME OUT THIS WEEK, AND I AM GOING TO PERISH. Also, For Better or Cursed by Kate Williams is releasing next week (??), and I really just need some lighthearted witch fluff in my life so bad, it’s going to be wonderful.
What are three books you want to read before the end of the year?
Only three?? Well, I have ten TBR books for December that I’m trying to read from monthly TBRs that I missed throughout the year, but, if I could read whatever I wanted to without thinking about what I’ve scheduled, it would definitely be:
And, like, not gonna lie, I have two of these next to me right now because I do what I want.
Is there a book you think could still shock you and become your favourite book of the year?
I mean, I know that I’m going to like a lot of the books I have scheduled for December, but I had some issues with Furyborn, so I’m not 100% sure I’ll like Kingsbane by Claire Legrand, but you never know! I could suddenly erupt with joy over it! I really want to because it’s such a big, epic high fantasy that has all the elements I usually love, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
Have you started making reading plans for 2021?
Of course! But that’s a spoiler because I have a goals post coming on the first of January, but, much like Lisa, mine are just “have fun, but also try to pay attention”. I have a bunch of series I want to finish, I’d like to get halfway through a 13-volume thing, I’m going to keep trying to finish Shadowhunters books until I actually do it, and there’s the usual nonfiction & classics thing. So I said spoilers, and then mostly told you everything, whatever! 2021 is gonna be hellishly fun, y’all, and that’s not only because I’m going to reread The Divine Comedy and finally write my “Dante was gay” dissertation.
