Y’all, I’m definitely a book snob, and I don’t even care. I saw this tag over at Words About Words, and I was just feeling so called out about halfway through Bree’s post that I had to give it a whirl. I have no idea who created this tag, so if you know, please let me know, and I’ll add it in!

Adaptation Snob:
Do you always read the book before you see the movie?

I’m going to say 98% of the time for the 2% that I accidentally saw without realizing it was a book, and for the fact that I’m going to watch The Witcher despite not having read the books. Well. Okay, fine, I read 100 pages of the first book, hated it so much that I had to DNF it, and decided to hell with it, the show looked good enough that I’d just plunge in with no previous knowledge. This is a real problem, though, because you know what’s crazy? Not only have I not read The Hunger Games, I’ve also never seen the movies because I didn’t want to spoil it for myself. And, at this point, neither of those is probably ever going to happen.

Format Snob:
You can only choose one format in which to read books for the rest of your life. Which do you choose: physical, ebooks, or audiobooks?

I’d like to note that I 100% believe all forms of books are valid, but physical books for me. I have a really, really hard time focusing on other people reading to me, even if it’s just a quick paragraph-long social media post, so I’ve actually never listened to a single audiobook in my life. Guys, even podcasts are a struggle. I’ve literally listened to one podcast ever (the Sleeping at Last one because I love him that much), and I did it while on very long drives. Also, I’ve never read an ebook because I associate phone/laptop reading with fanfiction, and I just don’t really like reading regular books on a screen.

Ship Snob:
Would you date or marry a nonreader?

Look, I’ve tried dating nonreaders, and while it’s not a deal breaker, it definitely isn’t fun. I have a lot of really close friends that are huge readers, so it helps, but being able to talk about the book I’m currently reading with the person I talk to the most is definitely going to sway me.

Genre Snob:
You have to ditch one genre – never to be read again for the rest of your life. Which one do you ditch?

Hm. Adult literary fiction. Whomp, there it is. I read it sometimes, and I once made a pledge to read more of my owned unread ones, and then I never read any of them, and I just? It’s good, I usually enjoy it, and giving it up means never again reading something as heartbreaking as The Guernsey Literary Potato Peel Pie Society, but I love the rest of the genres I read too much to give them up.

Uber Genre Snob:
You can only choose to read from one genre for the rest of your life. Which genre do you choose?

Fantasy. And if I have to be specific about subgenre, high fantasy. This is so easy, it’s mostly what I read, and even though urban fantasy is what I write, and thus should be something I’m reading a lot, I would probably literally spontaneously combust and die without high fantasy.

Community Snob:
Which genre do you think receives the most snobbery from the bookish community?

Bree said romance, and I’m going to have to agree with her, particularly because I was one of those for a long time. I thought it didn’t really have anything to offer, and even though I still very rarely read it, I’ve since realized I’m an ass and definitely wrong.

Snobbery Recipient:
Have you ever been snubbed for something that you have been reading or for reading in general?

I cannot even tell you how much I hate carrying these books around. The covers are awful (the new ones are a little better), and while I was rereading The Mortal Instruments series, I usually placed the book face down whenever I brought it out somewhere. It’s just so bad.

I can’t say that I’ve ever been snubbed out loud by someone else for reading something, though?
