Oh, I am all over this week’s That Artsy Reader Girl topic for TTT. I follow a lot of authors on different social media platforms, and as soon as I saw this topic, I knew it was going to be a fun one because I could immediately think of six right off the top of my head, so let’s get to it.

Also, I thought about listing these alphabetically, but they definitely have an actual rank in my head of who I’m either most likely to check or who I just love that much, so they’re in order of faves.

Maggie Stiefvater (Twitter)

Frankly, I’m bad at Twitter. I very rarely go on, and when I do, it’s just to quickly rant about something before disappearing again for days on end. Sometimes, if I’m stuck waiting somewhere and I’ve already scrolled through Instagram, I’ll give it a quick gander, but Twitter and I don’t usually hang out all that often.

Maggie’s Twitter, however. Not only do I get notifications for it, I usually check whatever the notification is pretty quickly. Look, y’all, this is how I get in those first 1000 doodled books and how I got a slot in the NY writing seminar. Maggie’s Twitter is easily the most hilarious part of my day. She’s so funny that even my mom follows her, despite the fact that she a) doesn’t read and b) will never read YA. She’s even come with me to some of Maggie’s talks!

Seriously, if you want a snarky laugh, follow her.

Shea Ernshaw

Shea Ernshaw’s Instagram is like a soft witch’s dream come true. It’s all snowy landscapes, miles of trees, unobtrusive fonts, and slightly off-center writing setups. It’s so floaty and vague and just everything I wish I could make my life look like. I mean, look at it. It looks so peaceful and sweet, and I just? Can we be friends, please?

Emily A. Duncan

Don’t even come near me, Emily Duncan fulfills ALL of my thirteen-year-old Gothic vibes, and I am HERE FOR IT. I love both her Instagram & Twitter, and for very different reasons.

The black & white aesthetic alone of her Instagram could just about kill me, but then pair that with gaudy Gothic jewelry, hardcore metal vibes, and the occasional huge glasses + dark lipstick selfie? I am done. I’m here for the aesthetic, and I don’t give a damn.

Her Twitter, on the other hand, is something I don’t check very often because see above about my relationship with Twitter, but when I need a quick Kylo Ren pick-me-up, there she is. And she’s also just ME when talking about her own book, which is to say very excitable.

Leigh Bardugo

Leigh Bardugo doesn’t post a ton on Instagram (I literally was able to scroll back to 2018 with, like, three swipes, but when she does, the aesthetic is real. It’s either Gothic vibes (again with the dark lips + gaudy jewelry, give it to meeeeee), haunted-looking landscapes, or news about her books. I’m bad at looking up news on my own, so I really appreciate this.

However, she does post Insta stories a lot, and those are fantastic, so really, I’m here for both.

Amanda Foody

Amanda Foody’s Instagram looks like your regular bookstagrammer, but hey, she’s an author, too! Her feed is full of gorgeous staged book photos, her fluffy orange cat, and absolutely delicious food. But what I love most? Her stories. She’s always got excellent writing tips, updates on where she is in the editing/writing process, and just generally really positive vibes.

S.A. Chakraborty

S.A. Chakraborty finally joined the Instagram squad last year, and while she doesn’t actually post a lot, I’m really mostly here for the Insta stories because WOW. Her feed showcases a few of the incredible recipes she’s highlighted, but her stories almost always have something new going on. Like, I followed her for book news, but I stayed for the food, and I love that kind of life.

Also, anytime she posts about Empire of Gold, a piece of my soul sobs.

Alexandra Bracken

Okay, this is a bit of a weird one because I’ve actually one read three books by Alexandra Bracken, and they’re not even from her most popular series, but her Instagram is beautiful. Like Amanda’s, she’s a bookstagrammer, too, so there’s tons of beautifully staged book photos, plus you get to see her cute curly little dog, and her Insta stories are where it’s at. I don’t know why, but I love seeing other authors just lounging about talking about their writing process in a super slouched on the couch kind of just rambling in every different direction way, and so I really appreciate that about her stories. I should actually get around to reading The Darkest Minds series.

Stephen King

Another excellent Twitter follow! Look, I’ve read approximately two Stephen King books in my entire life, and while I’m working on changing that, I didn’t actually follow him for book news, I followed him because he’s a badass. Okay, it’s mostly for political reasons, I love watching him tear the Orange Cheetoh apart, it’s so much fun. Plus, he’s just generally a really cool guy.

Alwyn Hamilton

I’m starting to see a trend here because Alwyn also doesn’t post on Instagram frequently, but when she does, it’s usually an OOTD, and I’m usually in love with it. I also just love seeing a fellow plus size woman totally kicking ass and taking names in the fashion world. Her stories are fun, too, because they’re usually about traveling or attending fancy events.

Victoria Schwab

And finally, a Twitter I actually follow for writing! And it’s all sorts of writing topics that help in monumental ways. Victoria shares all of the good and the bad, and it’s so refreshing to see that, to see her celebrating and collapsed on the floor in despair. Because writing just sucker punches you out of nowhere all the time, and I really appreciate that a successful author uses their platform to say hey it’s totally okay we’re all going through this. Plus, she’s very open with the process, and being able to see the pre-writing all the way through to published book process is very helpful.
