I’ve been seeing a lot of people posting about their anticipated releases of 2019, and let me tell you, I’ve added a lot to my Goodreads TBR because of it. I currently have 14 books on preorder for 2019, which is just totally insane because I thought have 6 books on preorder for 2018 was out of control. I’m telling you, 2019 is going to be a crazy word year for me. I am going to both write and read so many books.

Now, this is coming out before my January reads wrap-up, in which I will tell you that I have two goals for this year: my Goodreads challenge of 125 books and Beat the Backlist. I decided it would be fun to challenge myself to read every single book I bought or was gifted in 2018. That’s–a lot of books. Like. There are 60+ books on that list. (If you want to see where I’m at any given time, I have a shelf on Goodreads that lists all of those books, and hopefully the number will continue dropping since I was at 79 when the year began.)

But! I am definitely not going to ignore my preorders for this year because holy hell I’m excited about ALL OF THEM. So, without further ado, here are my 14 most anticipated releases of 2019! And no, they are not organized by favorites, they’re done alphabetically by author. Also, I haven’t copied their summaries over because it’s long and that’s a lot of work right now, but I have linked each title. Thus, the paragraphs following each book are just my ramblings about them. Enjoy!

Remember when I was raving like a madwoman about The Wicker King? I preordered this so fast, it was a little scary. This takes place in the same universe, and while August & Jack are in it, they’re only side characters and this takes place in the future, so they’re no longer teenagers in an unhealthy relationship that definitely don’t know what they’re doing. Now I think they’re dads? I’m so freaking excited? Yes.

King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo

I’m actually going to be busy right when this comes out. I go to see Bardugo on Wednesday the 30th, and then my friend comes down for the weekend because we’re going to Maggie Stiefvater’s writing seminar in NY that Saturday, so I either have to read this entire book on Thursday, or I have TO WAIT UNTIL THE NEXT WEEK. I’m going to spontaneously combust with either option. Nikolai, my love!

Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo

Have I really already preordered this, which comes out in October? You betcha. I’m famous for preordering books several months in advance and then completely forgetting about them until they come in the mail. Up until I started writing this post, I had zero clue what this was about, I just knew that I was going to read it because duh it’s by Leigh Bardugo, but now that I do know (I finally read the summary), I AM HERE FOR THIS. Secret occult societies in a college? Yes, please.

You know what’s super weird? I have read none of Bracken’s young adult novels, but I have all of them as marked to read and I even own one of them. For some reason, I just never got around to it? But my first one by her was The Dreadful Tale of Prosper Redding, and honestly, I don’t really preorder middle graders unless they’re by Maggie Stiefvater or Victoria Schwab, so this is a pretty big deal, if I do say so myself. It’s not. Calm down. I just can’t wait to read this because it reminds me so much of the Bartimaeus trilogy.

Mist, Metal, and Ash by Gwendolyn Clare

The first book in this series(?) was put on and taken off of my Top 10 of 2018 list four (literally) times. It was sadly beat out by other YA fantasies, but I kept trying to wedge it in there, so I’m very, very excited to read the sequel. The first one totally took me by surprise. I really didn’t know, going in, what kind of a book it was, that it was a little steampunk and weird, but holy moly did I love it. The magic system in this is so freaking cool.

Wicked Saints by Emily A. Duncan

So, here’s the thing. This is Duncan’s debut, and I have never before preordered a debut, but three things: the title, the cover, the summary. I am 100% certain that whenever I end up bookshopping around this book’s release date, I’m going to end up buying it, so why not just save myself the trouble, right? This, right from the jump, is ticking so many of my boxes, and I can’t wait to unravel it.

King of Fools by Amanda Foody

The amount that I loved the first book in this trilogy was a heck ton. Like. Yes, please. First of all, it was pitched as Six of Crows meets House of the Rising Sun, and um yes, and then it was so good, but also definitely stood apart from Crows, and I liked it so much that not only did I immediately preorder the second one, I also bought Foody’s other book. I cannot wait to see where these characters end up.

Ransacker by Emmy Laybourne

This weird little world makes me so happy. Guys. It’s Vikings and cowboys in the early Midwest. Like, what. And a female Berserker! This is really just the strangest combination of things, but it works really, really well, for some reason, and I am thrilled to be able to return to the world and the characters.

Song of the Abyss by Makiia Lucier

Hold onto your hats when this one comes out, guys. I flailed so much about the first book in this series. It made it into my Top 10 of 2018, and that’s about 50% because of Ulises. I love a young king so much. I am so eager to see what this book will be about AND WAIT. THIS IS ABOUT REYNA? Okay, see, this is a recurring problem. I don’t read summaries. I just preorder blindly, trusting that the author won’t lead me astray. Well, now I’m even more excited.

The Blood Spell by CJ Redwine

Funny story. I was bookshopping last year with my friend, and we were having a grand old time, and I happened to pick up The Traitor Prince. It sounded stellar, so I figured why not, and then when I got home and went to add it to my Goodreads, I realized it was the third in a series. I’ve actually never done that before, not bought the first one first, but here we are, and I’ve loved these books so much that I’ve preordered this one without still having read the third one. I just finished the second, and I’m so in love with how Redwine does her retellings, so I can’t wait to see how she carves out the story of Cinderella.

The Near Witch by VE Schwab

Yessssssss. This is near the top of my most anticipated releases (right after King of Scars because NIKOLAI). It’s the only book by Schwab that I haven’t read, and I am in love with the new cover. She has so many good books coming out this year, too, so I’m really going to try to stay on top of them. Also, do I know what this book is about? Witches? That’s about it. Hoorah for auto-buy authors!

I specifically waited for the graphic novel bind-up because storing graphic novels is so much easier, and I like reading them better than individual comic books. I also really love that Maxim’s story is being told this way. It’ll be really neat to see the world of Red London come to life like this, but also I think it fits Maxim to have his story told through a graphic novel rather than a regular novel.

Tunnel of Bones by Victoria Schwab

I’m perhaps more excited about Cassidy’s story being picked up for a TV show than I am about the Grishaverse Netflix news. I love Cassidy so much, and I’m really glad that we get to explore a new city with her and Jacob. This is going to be so fun.

Return of the Thief by Megan Whalen Turner

I have very specifically spread out this series so that I’m reading the last one next month so that I don’t have to wait a long time before this comes out. I started reading them in August 2018, and I wanted to gobble them up so bad, but I made myself wait because UGH EUGENIDES. Oh my god, I’m giggling. If you’ve read any of my reviews for these books, they’ll perfectly explain how I feel about this series, but also it’s just a lot of me going UGH EUGENIDES.

I have to include the fourth Three Dark Crowns book on this list, but as it has no title and no cover and I haven’t actually preordered it yet, I didn’t add it, but if it does end up sticking to its September date, I will definitely be reading it!

And that’s it! As of today, these are all of my most anticipated releases that I currently have on preorder for 2019. I’m sure more will crop up as I’m going through the year, and maybe I’ll swing around halfway through the year to post another one of these.

Are any of these on your list? Or did you find some new ones? Let me know in the comments!
